Dedicated to Astrophotography
Capture Hydrogen-Alpha Wavelengths
The High Res Shot mode is a computational function that combines information from multiple, sequentially recorded frames and composites it in-camera into a single high-resolution image. For the OM-3 ASTRO, the Handheld High Res Shot mode is the preferred mode, even when working from a tripod or equatorial mount, to capture and composite 12 separate frames into 50MP image with reduced image noise, no subject blur, and greater detail.
Since the position of each image is matched when compositing, this handheld mode will also correct the diurnal motion of stars from a tripod or other star misalignment or tracking errors caused by an equatorial mount.
- Preprogrammed COLOR settings make it easy to get started photographing astro scenes and starry landscapes right away—the COLOR1 setting optimizes color and camera settings for astrophotography scenes, like when photographing nebulae, and the COLOR2 setting is optimized for starry landscape scenes.
- The C1, C2, and C3 custom modes have also been preset for different shooting situations—C1 is a frame stacking mode for astrophotography, C2 is a frame stacking mode for starry landscapes, and C3 is the handheld mode for starry landscapes.
- Other key features already featured in the standard OM-3 are greatly beneficial to the specialized needs of astrophotography, including Starry Sky AF, Live Composite, the digital level, support for power delivery via USB while shooting, and a Night View mode.
Astrophotography Accessory Filters x 2
Beyond the modified camera, there are also a pair of optional specialized filters to enhance the quality and clarity of astro and starry sky photos. Both of these filter are body mount filters, too, and can be inserted within the lens mount to make them usable with any attached lens, including fisheyes and ultra-wides:
- The BMF-LPC01 Light Suppression Filter cuts stray light from artificial light sources, like street lamps, for more vividness and clarity when photographing near cities.
- The BMF-SE01 Soft Filter can slightly blur and soften the point light rendering of stars to make them appear more significant within the frame.
